The Department of Social Services is the heart of Marondera Rural District Council’s community care mandate. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and holistic wellbeing of the over 136,000 residents across our 23 wards. By managing primary healthcare facilities, supporting local education, and driving social inclusion initiatives, we ensure that every citizen—from our farming communities to our growth points—has the opportunity to thrive in a healthy, safe, and supportive environment.
To safeguard public health and promote social equity, the department focuses on the following key operational areas:
Primary Health Care Delivery: We manage, equip, and maintain 19 rural health clinics across the district. Our focus is on ensuring accessible maternal and child health care, immunization programs, and the provision of essential medicines.
Environmental & Public Health: We proactively monitor public hygiene, conduct disease surveillance, and enforce health by-laws. This includes regular inspections of food outlets, water quality monitoring, pest and vector control, and combating the spread of communicable diseases.
Education & Infrastructure Support: Working closely with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, we support the development and maintenance of Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers, primary schools, and secondary schools to guarantee safe learning environments for our children.
Social Welfare & Protection: We coordinate safety nets and support systems for the district’s most vulnerable populations, including orphans, the elderly, child-headed households, and persons with disabilities.
Gender Mainstreaming & Youth Empowerment: As a recognized Center of Excellence for Gender Mainstreaming, we actively design programs that empower women and youth through skills development, recreational activities, and equal access to council resources.
Community Amenities Management: We oversee the maintenance and administration of vital public facilities, including community halls, sports fields, recreational parks, and district cemeteries, fostering a strong sense of community and shared culture.
